Telstra invests 800 million dollars to further grow its cloud

Partnering with Cisco, Microsoft and other leading IT companies, Australian telecommunications firm Telstra recently announced it will spend $800 million on cloud computing technology, reports Nett.

The investment will be used to upgrade its current facilities underpinning cloud computing architecture, states the news source. Investment capital will be used to renovate existing IT infrastructures and the build a new data center for its virtual offerings.

Multiple cloud models and applications are set to be delivered by the telecommunications company's revamped cloud.

"There is no one solution that fits all with cloud computing, " said CEO David Thodey. "Telstra is investing to develop and deliver cloud computing solutions that can meet the individual needs of Australian businesses and governments."

Cloud applications will be run on the company's telecommunications networks, which will be kept safe by round-the-clock monitoring and security measures, states the media outlet.

The recent $800 million investment brings the company's grand total for cloud funding up to $billion, according to Australian IT. Telstra had previously sunk $200 million into its cloud projects, which it claims was an effort to provide customers with high-availability software.
